Grizzlies get an early march on SOS
A Positive Start To 2009
It was a rather uncertain start to the season for the Grizzlies. With supposedly 13 players on the team list we should have been fighting for a place in the pool but with SOS as our first opponent of the year Ned decided to stay home and wash her hair, Floppsy, exhausted after nights of trying to stay awake through community meetings then trying to sleep through screaming children stayed home to catch up on some sleep and Scotty was recovering from jet lag. That left us with:
Cheesey, Green Togs, Max, Martian and Killa
Gaffers, Big Nob, Lynchy and Crusty
Goose inspite of promises of a presence and a younger brother failed to show...... Anyway, hopes were high as we watched a few SOS trickle into the pool while we were reffing, particularly so since Winchy seemed to be nursing an injury and there was no sign of "Biffoe" Bob. On the up side the Thunder God made a brief appearance before adjourning to the spa and sauna, the lazy git.
And the season was off. Some early parrying and it soon became clear that Winchy was out and we were in. After a push up the left wing the puck was centred to Maddie who pushed it in to the tray. Lunchy got the next one I think before they managed to pull one back. Gaffers takes th blame for this one since he had to make a speedy exit from the pool in order to avoid spreading a slick of carrot imbued grossness on top of the water. Crusty then got one and in the second half Cheesey flew down and whipped the puck off the end of Max's stick who was apparently fannying around in the goal mouth and Da Cheese made certain of it. Martian also put one away from a reasonable distance and we had the game in the bag.
The only down side from an otherwise brilliant win for the first game back was rather poor subbing. Killa spent the majority of the second half watching in vain and unable to get in the water. Granted the puck was up on our forward line most of the half but we need to be aware of our time in the water, make the most of it and share it around.
The pub was fair, beer and deep fried food is always going to go down well and while we don't have the relationship we had with the Bridies bar staff, it's probably for the better.
